Miss Katie was visiting me this weekend, and we had fun fun busy times! Saturday we went to an early matinee of Prince Caspian (cause I hadn't seen it yet), which was good, though I do have some problems with it, mostly concerning the fact that Caspian was older than me and rather attractive even though he was supposed to be about 13. Strange and confusing. But, but, but REEPICHEEP! Actually all the animal animation was very good (Trufflehunter too was quite good), but Reepicheep was just awesome. All in all, the movie was good, but Katie was right - it just made me want to see Dawn Treader ASAP. Except, I'm a little concerned about how Caspian being so much older than Edmund and Lucy will change the dynamic of interaction for Dawn Treader. I hope they're all buddies still despite Caspian being a grown up. .... A really good looking grown up. *ahem*
After the movie, we got dressed up (I wish I'd thought to take a picture, we were cute!), grabbed some tasty Thai food for dinner, and then went off to the Auditorium Theater to see WICKED!
The theater itself was... not exactly what I was expecting? For one thing, I thought there would be a parking garage, but the parking was all in little lots on the surrounding streets. Which was fine - we paid 5 bucks to park right across the street from the theater in a church parking lot. Traffic was just murderous after the show was over. Luckily I made Katie drive (thanks Katie!). It was the first time I'd gone to a show at the Auditorium Theatre, and all in all I found it to be nice, but not quite as pretty as the Eastman Theater? It has more seating, obviously, but not quite as much character. And I realized that I have been extremely spoiled by going to see shows at the Benedum in Pittsburgh, because it is SUCH a beautiful theater. But despite a slight lack in ambience, the show was positively FANTASTIC! Our seats were better than I was expecting. We had these two seats off in their own mini row on the left side, so Katie could kinda put her legs out in the aisle, and we had a perfect view of the stage. It was the first weekend evening show of the Rochester run, and you could tell, I think. The audience was SO responsive. They were breaking out into applause at all these random moments - right in the middle of Popular, for example - and laughing at everything. And the cast definitely deserved it, because they were excellent. The girl playing Glinda was wonderful! She had a great voice, and was SO HYPER and enthusiastic and put so much personality into a role that already has a lot of intrinsic personality. And our Elphaba was also really excellent in voice and acting. She really played the part a lot angrier than I was expecting and it totally worked. And, adorably, the guy playing Fiyero was married to the girl playing Nessarose, and apparently they'd toured in Miss Saigon as Chris and Kim, respectively. Adorable and... slightly depressing. They were also both very good in their roles (though Katie was lamenting Fiyero's short hair). I was expecting to love the show, and I did did did did. Did.
Did.
My only regret is that I had no money on me for a picture program. But, I know people at school who are going in two weeks, so I may yet decide to get one.
Eeeeee, Wicked! The sets were really cool, the costumes were CRAZY, the cast, as mentioned, was great, and it all made me remember how much I love live theater. Definitely a good time.
And now it is time for me to get ready for work. Wow, I think that's the more words than there are in the rest of my livejournal posts combined.
Current Mood: awake
Current Music: Wicked medley, unsurprisingly
